North, South boys knocked out of playoffs

The 2013-14 campaign for the Wheaton North boys basketball team came to a close Tuesday in a 76-60 loss to Riverside-Brookfield in a Class 4A Elk Grove regional semifinal game.

The Falcons had advanced to the semifinals after defeating Willowbrook 68-33 on Monday.

Last week, Wheaton North nearly denied Glenbard North a share of the DVC title in the regular season finale Feb. 26 before falling, 78-69.

The score was tied at 64-64 with four minutes remaining but the Panthers, who tied for first place in the league with West Aurora, went on a 14-5 run to close the game.

Andrew Slivinski did all he could to spoil the Panthers’ hopes, scoring 29 points. The senior connected on four 3-pointers and added eight rebounds. Matt Biegalski added 10 points.

Wheaton Warrenville South

The Tigers’ boys basketball season came to an end Monday in a 53-40 loss to Plainfield East in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal.

Wheaton Warrenville South had closed out the regular season with a 45-41 loss to Glenbard East on Feb. 26.

St. Francis

The Spartans fell 46-44 to Wheaton Academy on Feb. 26 despite a game-high 21 points from Zach Prociuk. Jason Sullivan contributed 10 points.

St. Francis began the playoffs Wednesday at the Kaneland regional.
