Prep roundup: RB boys win 20 games

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lyons Township

The Lions finished the regular season with a 67-42 win at Addison Trail. Jaquan Phipps scored 17 points in the win. LT enters tonight's playoff opener with a 16-10 record.

Riverside Brookfield

The Bulldogs claimed two wins in the final week of the regular season to enter Tuesday's regional semifinal with 20 wins, the sixth straight 20-win season for the program. RB defeated Providence 66-55 on Feb. 25 with Jack VandeMerkt (17 points, 13 rebounds), Sam Johnson (16 points, 11 rebounds) and Will Kincanon (14 points) leading the way.

RB won a high-scoring game 97-72 against Elmwood Park on Friday to finish the Metro Suburban Conference 12-0. Daniko Jackson (23 points, six assists), VandeMerkt (15 points), Kevin Fitzgerald (15 points), Kincanon (14 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists) and Johnson (14 points, 11 rebounds) all had big days.

Nazareth

After losing to Marian Catholic 79-56 on Thursday, the Roadrunners finished the regular season 13-12 overall and 3-5 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference. Naz opens the playoffs tonight at home.

St. Joseph

The Chargers beat St. Rita 67-64 in a non-conference game to close out the regular season on Friday. Glynn Watson had a big game with 26 points. Nick Rakocevic scored 18 points and Jordan Ash added 13 in the win.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Nazareth

The Roadrunners pushed Montini for a half, but couldn't knock off the powerhouse Broncos on Feb. 25. Montini won the Glenbard South sectional semifinal 70-44 after leading 23-20 at halftime. Katelyn Cahill scored 11 points in the loss for Nazareth.

WRESTLING

Lyons Township

The Lions lost at Marist 35-28 in a sectional final dual on Feb. 25.

Riverside Brookfield

Oak Forest beat the Bulldogs 66-3 in a sectional final at Bremen on Feb. 25.

BOYS SWIMMING

Fenwick

Two individual swimmers and two relays qualified for state final swims on Saturday at Evanston Township High School. Junior Michael Hill was eight in the 50-yard freestyle and sophomore Cavan Smith took 12th in the 100-yard butterfly. Hill and Smith were joined by Conor Fabian and Zach Tieke in the 200-yard medley relay, which took sixth. Hill, Smith, Tieke and Andrew Bertschy teamed up for 12th in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Fenwick was 16th in the team standings.
