Retirement expert to give Social Security talk at West Chicago library

WEST CHICAGO – Retirement expert Jim Flanagan of Bentron Financial Group will present “Understanding Social Security: A Look at the Bigger Picture” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the West Chicago Public Library District, 118 W. Washington St.

The free educational session will cover various topics, including the benefits of taking Social Security, the best time to begin taking benefits, the effects of working while receiving benefits, taxation of Social Security benefits, and spousal/widow benefits.

The session is for those who have not yet begun receiving Social Security benefits, and it is expected to last about an hour.

Flanagan is the founder of Naperville-based Bentron Financial Group. He has been advising people at or near the retirement age for more than 20 years.

In 2005, Flanagan joined the Oak Park-River Forest Township Senior Services Committee, and he has served as chairman since 2008. In 2010, he founded the Celebrating Seniors Coalition, a nonprofit that assists seniors and raises awareness of issues that affect them.
