Knockout Women's Boxing Club throws 'Punches for Paws'

Published: Friday, March 21, 2014 12:49 p.m. CDT

WESTMONT – Knockout Women's Boxing Club will host “Punches for Paws” fundraiser April 24-25 to raise funds for the West Suburban Humane Society.

One of two yearly fundraisers presented by the Westmont boxing club, the two-day event will feature a coed boxing workout at 7 p.m. April 25 and a pair of women only boxing training sessions at 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. April 26. Each class requires pre-registration and costs $20.

Along with the workouts West Suburban Humane Society will bring in adoptable dogs to during the Knockout Women's Boxing Club classes on April 26, and there will be a raffle of human and pet-related gifts from local stores.

A portion of all the generated proceeds will be donated to the local Humane Society chapter. Event registration opens April 1.

Knockout Women's Boxing Club Owner Jessica Storch adopted the club’s mascot, a beagle aptly named Champ, from WSHS eight years ago. She said the Knockout staff and fundraiser attendees will be throwing "punches for paws that can’t" to help generate awareness to the needs of the local shelter.

“Many of our members are animal lovers and absolutely adore Champ, our mascot, so we wanted to do something to give back to WSHS,” Storch said. “All of our fundraising boxing workouts are beginner friendly. We encourage everyone to come give boxing a try for a great cause.”

Knockout Women's Boxing Club, located at 95 W. 61st St., hosts two fundraisers yearly to support the community and women relevant causes.
