Seth Dvorak's effort on the mound gave Dukes rubber game victory

ELMHURST – Not many people would have seen this one coming.

York knocked off Oak Park River Forest 5-4 in Monday's rubber game of the opening three-game series in the West Suburban Silver for both teams.

The Dukes split Saturday's doubleheader in Oak Park and rode Seth Dvorak's pitching performance and some key hits to the win. Dvorak gave up just one earned run and was one out away from the complete game.

"Nobody really gave us a shot to win this series, but we came out, played tough and got the win," Dvorak said.

Dvorak needed to earn six outs in the top of the first after his infield let him down with three errors. The Huskies took advantage with two runs. OPRF capitalized on a pair of walks to score another run in the second.

Then the Dukes came back with two runs in the third, with RBIs coming from Anthony Santos and Dvorak, and two more in the fourth, with RBIs from Nolan Spencer and Dvorak again.

Each team scored a run in the fifth inning. Niall O'Brien's two-out single that came after an OPRF error gave York the lead for good.

"They were preseason ranked fifth, a lot of people hadn't talked about us, but we just came out and played our game," Santos said. "We hit timely, we pitched good, we hit our spots. Huge series win. It's a great way to start off conference."

Santos earned the game 1 win on Saturday and also homered in that game.

York is now 2-5, after dropping four non-conference games to start the season.
