Car swerves into Downers Grove pond, no injuries reported

DOWNERS GROVE – A vehicle drove into a retention pond Thursday in Downers Grove after swerving to avoid a small animal, according to the Downers Grove Police Department.

The 2005 Mercedes Benz was heading westbound at 9:39 a.m. Thursday on Barneswood Avenue, near Highland Avenue, when it swerved to avoid the hitting the animal, according to police.

It did not strike any other vehicles, police said.

The driver was not injured and the vehicle was only partially submerged, police said.
