RIVERSIDE – Riverside police announced Monday that Maria E. Segura, 26, of the 8400 block of South Kenton Avenue, Chicago, was charged and arrested for two counts of driving under the influence after a Riverside police officer noticed her vehicle driving westbound on the Burlington Northern Railroad Tracks at 4:06 a.m. May 5.

The officer was on patrol southbound in the 3300 block of Harlem Avenue when he observed Segura's vehicle at the railroad crossing with its left turn signal on. After taking a sharp left-hand turn, the vehicle traveled west along the tracks, striking both rails and loose adjacent ties, according to the police department.

After contacting the Riverside dispatcher – who notified the railroad to shut down traffic in the area – the officer was able to stop the vehicle just went of Harlem Avenue.

Segura, who told the officer she was attempting to drive to an ATM, failed all sobriety tests and was taken into custody. Once at the police station, it was determined that Segura's blood alcohol level was registered at 0.209, with the legal standard being 0.08.

Along with being charged and arrested for two DUI counts, Segura was also charged with driving with a suspended license, driving in the wrong lane and no insurance.

The Riverside Police Department also confiscated her 1996 Chevy Cavalier.
