Letter: Wheaton North police ticketing senior ceremony inappropriate

To the editor:

On May 22, we were so proud to bear witness to our son’s success at his Senior Awards Ceremony at Wheaton North High School. Many parents rearranged busy schedules and took time off work to be part of this important event, and to bask in the glory of the achievements of Wheaton North’s most accomplished students.

Upon arrival at the event, parking was difficult. All of the regular parking at the school was taken, which forced parents to park on the street.

After the ceremony, still basking in the glory of achievement, it was completely inappropriate for the Wheaton police to be out in full force issuing $50 parking tickets to the parents who only wanted to witness the success of their students.

A huge raspberry goes out to the Wheaton Police and the Milton Township for focusing more on money than on the positive achievements that are happening in our community.
