PEORIA – Westmont's baseball team was going to remember bringing home its first state trophy no matter what.

The Sentinels are really going to remember this one.

Westmont was set to face Freeburg in the Class 2A third place game Saturday. Instead, the game went down as a 0-0 tie and both teams earned third place trophies as the game never got to be played because of poor weather and field conditions at Dozer Park.

Illinois High School Association bylaws state that when the third place game cannot be played, both teams finish in third place.

Westmont (27-8-2) lost 6-2 against Byron in a state semifinal game on Friday. Zach Moran had two of the Sentinels' five hits and scored both runs. Tommy Franczak and John Kelly had the RBIs.

Moran was the starting pitcher, and Austin Loehman and Kevin Melvin also saw action on the mound.
