Moratorium set for marijuana dispensaries

Published: Tuesday, June 10, 2014 2:55 p.m. CDT

BROOKFIELD – Trustees in Brookfield voted to place a temporary moratorium on the acceptance and processing of applications for marijuana growing and dispensing centers at their May 27 board meeting.

The moratorium was put in place because the village has not yet decided where it will zone potential dispensaries in the village.

The state of Illinois passed a medical marijuana pilot program in January that will allow 60 dispensaries statewide, with one set aside for Lyons Township.
