Bartlett library program creates 'book buddies'

Published: Thursday, July 3, 2014 12:15 p.m. CDT

BARTLETT – Five-year-old Haylee Wolf (from left) of Bartlett reads with teen volunteer Andrea Winget on June 10 at the Bartlett Public Library as part of the Book Buddies program.

The purpose of the program is to encourage summer reading, develop children’s confidence when reading aloud and make reading fun.

Book Buddies is an interactive opportunity for teen volunteers to support the efforts of children entering kindergarten through second grade by sharing in a one-on-one reading session.

Teens are trained to support and encourage the young readers as they develop their ability to read aloud.

Book Buddies programs are scheduled from 1 to 1:45 p.m. June 24 and July 8, 15 and July 22.
