BARRINGTON – The Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble celebrated their rich history with a 25th anniversary concert June 13 and 14 at the Barrington High School auditorium. More than 600 people enjoyed the show, which featured past favorites along with several new premieres, according to a news release.
The concert included works by founder and artistic director Mary Brennan, as well as works by award-winning choreographers such as Eddy Ocampo, Winifred Haun and the rest of the company's artistic staff. Attendees learned about the history of the company through a series of performances featuring a "compelling and challenging repertoire," from classical favorites to contemporary works, the release states.
BYDE staff and alumni dancers shared memories. The celebration included a special video presentation of staff and dancers who have been with the company since it began in 1989. Many are still involved today.
Brennan said longtime artistic and production associates, combined with dedicated funders, dancers and volunteers, have melded with executive, artistic and advisory boards with "consistent zeal" for the past 25 years.
"From the young children to the seasonal professionals, this organization has become a family which passes its traditions on and on."
The BYDE is a non-profit organization that promotes artistic integrity, involvement and awareness through exceptional dance training and performance in the Chicago area, according to the release.
