CRYSTAL LAKE – Crystal Lake residents can experience a different interaction with their local police on Aug. 5 as the Crystal Lake Police Department will host National Night Out.

The event, which will take place at Three Oaks Recreational Area on 5517 Northwest Highway, is part of a national initiative that gives communities and local law enforcement the opportunity to come together to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

This year's edition will include free face-painting, a balloon artist, police and fire vehicles on display, a police canine demonstration, an inflatable fire truck slide, a dunk tank for charity, Glowby the Bubbler and other games for children. As in previous years, parking and admission is free.

Police will be joined by representatives from Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital who will provide free bicycle helmet fittings and free bicycle helmets. Culver's will also be on hand to provide meals for a discounted price of $2.75. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Departments from communities like Cary, Harvard, Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Prairie Grove and Woodstock are also hosting National Night Out festivities on Aug. 5. Interested participants should contact their local police department for more information.
