LA GRANGE – A La Grange resident and CEO at ArrowStream, a food service technology supply company, was shot at his office in Chicago's Loop Thursday around 9:50 a.m.

Steven LaVoie, 54, of La Grange, was shot in the head and stomach during the shooting, which occurred on the 17th floor of the Bank of America building, at 231 S. LaSalle St., Chicago.

According to Chicago police, LaVoie had a one-on-one meeting with the shooter, an employee who was recently demoted at work during company downsizing.

The shooter was identified as Anthony Defrances, of Barrington, by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office Friday.

After shooting LaVoie, the 59-year-old employee turned the gun on himself and was pronounced dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head, according to police.

LaVoie was taken to Northwestern Hospital by ambulance and was listed in critical condition.

Bank employees were given the all clear around 10:45 a.m., but the scene is still active as police interview witnesses and continue to investigate.
