County health department closes beach

Published: Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 3:00 p.m. CDT

The McHenry County Department of Health closed a beach at Park and Beach Avenue in McCullom Lake due to elevated bacteria levels, according to a news release.

Two beaches, Lake Park Beach (Main Beach) in Crystal Lake and Wonder Woods 2 in Wonder Lake have been given advisories, the news release said.

The three beaches were among 37 beaches the health department tested on Thursday.

The McCullom Lake beach was scheduled to be tested again on Friday, the news release said.

For updates on beach conditions, go to www.mcdh.info.

To prevent illness associated with swimming, all licensed beaches on the 12 lakes in McHenry County are tested every two weeks for E. coli throughout the summer, the news release said. Additional sampling is done when elevated bacterial levels are found.
