WEST CHICAGO –- The West Chicago Police Department has issued an alert to residents due to a recent ruse to enter a home in unincorporated DuPage County near West Chicago.

The June 17 incident involved several men in a white Nissan extended cab truck that pulled into the victim's driveway off Kaelin Road, according to a city news release.

One of the men approached the front door and spoke to the resident, explaining he had extra concrete from a previous job and offering to repair the driveway at a reduced rate, the release stated. The person of interest talked the resident outside and to the rear of the home.

The resident realized she had left her front door open and returned to the front of the home where she observed another man exiting her residence, according to the release.

Neither of the men produced a business card when asked, and both men then reentered their vehicle and drove away. The resident reported that nothing appeared to be missing from her home, the release stated.

Surveillance video from a neighbor's home captured the suspect's vehicle, which appears to have damage to its front end.

One suspect is described in the release as a white man, about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9 with a medium build, wearing a white T-shirt and speaking English without an accent.

The release describes the second man as about 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7 with a large stomach, wearing a white T-shirt and a baseball cap with a red bill.

Additional suspects were observed by witnesses and described as white men, possibly wearing coveralls.

Anyone with information may contact Detective Brian Mowrer at the DuPage County Sheriff's Office at 630-407-2400.
