West Chicago sees more home sales, higher sale price

WEST CHICAGO – Six more homes were sold in West Chicago in June compared to May, and the median sale price rose as well, according to a report from the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors.

In June, the median sale price of the 29 homes sold was $250,000, compared to $220,000 in May. The sale price decreased from a year ago, however, when it was $259,000 in June 2013.

That month, 28 homes were sold in West Chicago.

Warrenville also saw an uptake in home sales in June 2014 compared to May 2014, numbers show.

In June, 18 homes were sold, compared to just two in May. A year ago, nine homes were sold in June in Warrenville.

Home sales demonstrated a similar trend in some nearby communities. Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn and Wheaton all showed an increase in June 2014 sales over the previous month, according to the report. However, each town showed a decrease in sales in June 2014 compared with the previous year.

Winfield varied from Warrenville, West Chicago and other towns in that home sales decreased between May and June, from 21 to 12. June 2013 also saw more sales than June 2014 with 19 homes sold.

The median sale price this June was $231,500 in Warrenville, compared to $194,500 in May and $179,000 in June 2013, numbers show.

Winfield also saw a higher median sale price in June 2014 of $342,710, more than $340,000 in May 2014 and $270,000 in June 2013.

Similar trends were reported in Carol Stream and Glen Ellyn, where the median sale price in June 2014 in both towns was higher than in May 2014 and June 2013, according to the report.

In Wheaton, however, the median sale price this June 2014 was lower than in both May 2014 and June 2013.
