West Chicago police ready for Labor Day traffic enforcement

Published: Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014 3:51 p.m. CDT

WEST CHICAGO – The West Chicago Police Department is planning an intensified late-night enforcement effort for the 2014 Labor Day "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" Impaired Driving Crackdown to counter the overwhelming numbers of impaired drivers and seat belt law violators.

Data from the Illinois Department of Transportation and National Highway Safety Administration report midnight to 3 a.m. as the deadliest time on Illinois roads.

The West Chicago Police Department recommends designating a sober driver before going out and not allowing family or friends to drive impaired, an easy step to avoid a crash or an impaired-driving arrest. Other tips include:

• If you are impaired, call a taxi, use mass transit or call a sober friend or family member to drive you home safely.

• Do not hesitate to report impaired drivers to law enforcement.

• Ensure the driver and all passengers are wearing seat belts.
